Dear Parents and Students,
For over a decade and a half, Dance Kids Toronto has provided students with exciting performance experiences through its Recitals. It’s a rite of passage for thousands of dancers; a chance to shine in front of family and friends, that students anticipate with nervous excitement.
A big part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. The experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Performance opportunities contribute to children’s success in non-dance activities. That onstage experience can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities.
The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and they learn the positive aspects of working as a team.
It is the responsibility of the entire community, students, parents, teachers and directors to do their part to make a great show. The recital is only as successful as we make it - let's work together to make the recital a magical experience for your child!
We’ve created an online survival guide in an effort to clarify Dance Kids Toronto's preferred recital process. It can be found below.
We look forward to a great show!

All children must be left with the capable Dance Kids Toronto staff for the entire rehearsal and recital (1:30pm - 2:30pm). All parents are welcomed to stay in the lobby until the theatre auditorium doors open at 2:00pm.
The goal of this time is to familiarize your child with the theatre stage, backstage, dressing rooms and process. Please make sure that at least one parent remains onsite, should your child experience any emotional distress, we will come and find you.
It is our goal to make the entire recital experience a complete JOY for you and your child.
The children will not stay in the dressing rooms for any period of time. The dressing rooms are used for the bathroom facilities, leaving your child's coats, boots and bags and a quiet place should your child need a moment.
The dressing rooms are not a hangout for parents, teachers or students. There will be no horse play, hide and seek or any such behaviours tolerated at the theatre.
Dressing room #1 - Grade 1/2 students.
Dressing room #2 - JK and SK students.
Please do not pack messy foods or drinks for your child, as we don't want any spills on the costumes.
HAIR: Dance Kids Toronto does not require uniform hair styles for dancers on stage. We encourage parents to style their children's hair in a way that will make your child feel most comfortable and confident.
It is helpful to have your child's hair off their face so that parents, family, friends and the video camera can clearly see your little star on stage.
Make-up: Dance Kids Toronto does not require your child to wear make-up. As a parent, you control what make-up is worn by your child, if any.
Tights: Tights are mandatory under your child's costume for hygienic purposes. Please purchase "classical ballet pink" tights. Stage tights are not going to match your child's skin tone. "Classical ballet pink" has no correspondence with ethnicity.
No parent will be allowed to remain backstage during the rehearsal or the show for any reason. Should your child have a medical condition or safety issue that our staff needs to be aware of, please submit it in writing to: email@example.com before July 31, 2020.
Please be advised that it is Dance Kids Toronto's mission to make the recital a positive experience for all involved.
